Springston Recreation Reserve

Springston Recreation Reserve is a small sports reserve on Ellesmere Junction Road with a modest playground alongside its cricket, netball, rugby, and tennis facilities. A multi-play structure with a slide and a swing set with an infant seat make up the play equipment, set on bark with off-street parking at the reserve.

History and Cultural

Springston is one of the oldest settlements on the Canterbury Plains, founded around 1853 and named after The Springs Run cattle station co-owned by James Edward FitzGerald. The Methodist Church, opened in 1866, was the settlement's first building, and Springston School opened in 1868 as one of only twenty schools in Canterbury at the time. The recreation reserve has served the district's sporting needs ever since.

The equipment itself has no shade, though the wider reserve offers plenty of grass. Selwyn District Council's smokefree policy applies.
