Bradford Park Playground

Bradford Park Playground is a compact neighbourhood play space on Milton Street in Sydenham, built around a multi play structure with slide, a junior slide, swings and a see saw, and a good option for families with a mix of toddlers and early primary kids. Mature trees shade the picnic seating right beside the equipment.

Equipment

The multi play structure with slide is the centrepiece, with a junior slide, swings including an infant seat, and a see saw completing the lineup. The surface is rubber impact tiles across approximately 378 square metres.

Access and Inclusion

The infant swing serves younger families. The site is flat throughout and the surface around the equipment is manageable with a pushchair. There's no perimeter fence. On-street parking is available on Milton Street.

History and Cultural

The reserve's site began as shingle pits worked by a 19th century roading contractor, who used water from sunk wells to wash the gravel. When quarrying finished in the 1880s, the pits filled and became ornamental ponds known locally as Smart's Pond, stocked with trout, perch and goldfish, before the reserve was formally renamed Bradford Park in 1930.

Practical Info

Public toilets and picnic tables are on site. Softball, cricket and rugby league clubs use the sports fields on weekends, giving the park a lively community feel, and it's within cycling and walking distance of the city centre via Colombo Street.
