A really lovely clean beach with a playground for multiple ages, responsible freedom camping area, cold showers, minimal toilets & a couple of rubbish bins. One late night party goer spoiled the atmosphere for a while, but other than that a nice place to freedom camp for up to 4 nights. Be aware the parking spaces are standard length with no extra room
Broad Park
8 Broadpark Road, Waimairi Beach, Christchurch 8083
Why these ages?
Infant swing bay and sandpit give toddlers a foothold but the playground is only a few steps from Pegasus Bay with no fence between play area and dunes/beach, and a reviewer explicitly says 'more suitable for kids 4+'. Flying fox is picked out as one of the better ones on the eastern beaches — great for primary and pre-tween. Beach access is a big win for older kids happy to range.
Access notes
Description explicitly states the terrain is flat with a pushchair accessible entrance and off street parking, but bark covers the fall zones throughout, a barrier for wheelchair users.
What's here
Broad Park playground sits at the northern end of Broadpark Road in Waimairi Beach, a Christchurch suburb where the streets meet the dunes and the long sweep of Pegasus Bay opens directly ahead. The playground is only a few steps from the sand, making it one of the more appealing combined beach and playground stops on the city's coast, and the equipment mix suits toddlers through to primary age.
