Centennial Park

Centennial Park is the family playground hub of Wellsford, a small Rodney township on State Highway 1 roughly midway between Auckland and Whangarei.

Equipment

The playground is compact and set on bark, built around a multi-play frame with a slide and a separate tubular slide. Standard swings include an infant swing for the youngest visitors, while the main climbing frame holds the interest of children up to about eight or nine.

Access and Inclusion

Shade over the equipment comes mainly from nearby established trees rather than direct cover, so there's minimal shade right at midday.

History and Cultural

The park sits on a 16-hectare reserve alongside netball, tennis, rugby, and cricket facilities used by clubs including Netball Rodney Centre, and it has served Wellsford's sporting community for over 20 years. A NZD 2 million upgrade in 2024 and 2025 rebuilt the upper courts with new surfaces, drainage, fencing, lighting, and wheelchair access, and a new pedestrian footbridge opened in 2025 connects the Wellsford town centre to the park without crossing State Highway 1.

Practical Info

Public toilets and tennis courts are on site, with off-street parking from Centennial Park Road. The reserve is smokefree.
