Fairplay Street Playground

Fairplay Street Playground in Fairfield, Dunedin, pairs a children's play area with the Fairfield Miniramps skate facility, one of the few local spots where young skaters and small children share the same patch of ground comfortably. It suits a wide age range, from toddlers on the play equipment to first time skaters working the beginner ramp.

Equipment

RICH Landscapes redeveloped the skate ramps for Dunedin City Council through a community co design process, completing the work on 20 November 2022. The rebuild replaced ageing metal structures with a 4.8 metre wide, three foot high miniramp for beginners and younger riders, plus a spined double miniramp rising to five or six feet across a 7.2 metre span for more experienced skaters. The Dunedin Skateboarding Association, supported by Pavement skate shop, launched the new ramps with an open run event judged across categories including best grom and best trick. Alongside the skate zone, the playground itself has climbing structures, swings and a slide set on bark, well clear of the ramps.

Practical Info

Picnic tables and seating are on site, with on street parking nearby. The playground is unfenced, so younger children need supervision near the skate ramps, and shade is limited over the skate zone on exposed afternoons.
