Lincoln Domain

Lincoln Domain's playground is a small, bark-surfaced set with swings and a multi-play structure with slides, in place since around 2018, with a skatepark alongside for older kids on wheels. It sits within a busy recreation hub on Meijer Drive, alongside tennis courts, an outdoor fitness circuit and the Lincoln Event Centre, all built around a rugby ground with well over a century of history.

Equipment

Swings and a multi-play structure with slides make up the core playground, with a skatepark next door giving older kids their own space on wheels. A separate outdoor fitness circuit nearby offers several exercise stations, from a cross trainer to a pull up rack with parallel bars, giving teenagers and adults a workout option on the same trip. There is no shade over the play equipment.

History and Cultural

Lincoln Rugby Club has called the domain home since 1897, though the club went through years of formation and disestablishment before affiliating with the Ellesmere Sub-Union in 1931. It won its first senior competition in 1943 and became a consistent force in Ellesmere and Mid Canterbury competitions afterwards, and today fields senior teams across three divisions and Colts alongside junior grades from Under 6 to Under 18.

Practical Info

Tennis courts and the Lincoln Event Centre round out the domain, the latter used for conferences, functions and community events year round. Off street parking is available on site, and Selwyn District Council asks visitors not to smoke anywhere in the domain.
