Why these ages?

Destination reserve built around an 80m dual flying fox, bike pump track, disc golf, and a decommissioned Cessna to explore. Dog park is fenced separately so bark stays calmer. Infant and you-and-me swings show a toddler-friendly nod, but 12 hectares of unfenced open space and a busy pump track mean a 2-4yo can't be let loose. Older kids and tweens will love it.

Access notes

The flat path network through the reserve is described as suiting prams and bikes, but the playground equipment itself sits on a bark surface, a barrier for wheelchair users. No accessible parking or toilet detail is confirmed beyond generic on site facilities.

Linklater Reserve in Kelvin Grove is a big destination playground built around an 80 metre dual flying fox, the longest in Palmerston North, alongside a bike pump track and a fenced dog park spread across a 12 hectare reserve on the city's northern edge. It suits a wide age range, from toddlers on the infant and you and me swings through to older kids working laps of the pump track, and rewards a 60 to 90 minute visit.

Fantastic off-leash dog park. Has huge space for dogs to run and play, agility course, wetlands. Has bags at each entrance to clean up after pup and a hose by the toilet blocks to wash any muddy puppers. BBQ area with plenty of table space. Has cool playgrounds for the kiddos but of course there are people out there wrecking stuff, unsure if the aeroplane is back in action after being burnt 🤬

This is by far one of the best dog parks in Palmy, its absolutely amazing! Approximate 3km walk for the dogs and their hoomans, gas cooking facility with a massive table setting to eat by. Perfect for those group outings. A play area for the kids, double flying fox so you can race each other down... a swing bridge, timber climbing area, bicycle track, a plane where kids can play in. Theres a tap as well for both dogs and their humans to use. A full dog agility course is also available for those agility able dogs! Just love going there, perfect spot I must admit. Thank you Palmy council.

What a wild gem this park is! It’s supposed to be a dog park but we had no dog to take. The walks feel like you are strolling through a farm except that there are cute bridges, challenge courses, a great flying fox and even a plane that …

This is a really nice reserve with amazing views of the nearby turbines. It also has some really cool things such as a plane with a slide and a swing bridge, as well as a game of disc golf, an off leash dog area and playgrounds.

Huuuuuge park to run the dogs (and kids) the plane down the back is a fan fave with my kids, Also the flying fox. Has doggy doo bags and also water fountain for the dogs too. Lovely + decent walk for all. Not much in the way of shade on a very hot day though.

This dog park is an absolute gem. We travel from the other side of town to walk our dog here regularly. We especially enjoy the huge area that our dog can run off-leash in and also all the other dog owners and their dogs that we meet on our outings. Well done Palmie, it’s another great addition to the city.

Best off leash dog exercise area that we have visited, wish there were more areas like this.
