Matahourua Park is a small neighbourhood reserve in Cannons Creek that carries one of the more significant names in the Porirua parks network, gifted by Ngati Toa to replace an earlier name the iwi found culturally offensive. The 0.64 hectare reserve mixes kickabout space, basketball and volleyball with a playground built around swings, a multi-play structure with slide and a climbing module.

Walking with my moko from home to this park is about 5-10min away. My moko are age 3yr,6yrs and 8yrs old..I think this is their favourite one suits them all..then Mungavin str Park has a real good slide that burns bare skin..and flying fix. They like that one to...I grew up in the creek. The changes for children are noticed and appreciated.

Nice, open park. Decent playground for the kids, and an exercise circuit for the adults. Also has a half-court for basketball, and a pretty sizable field.

It was enjoyable for the children just 1 downfall. No toilets there for the children. Other than that an enjoyable park to take the children.

This area is currently under re-development for social housing. It will be at least 2024 before I expect to see more than road cones and pipe installations
