Came there to get away and for peace and quiet for a few days, and my goal was definitely realised. The parking was empty so there was enough space for me to find a spot out of the mud as it had rained for a couple of days prior. Its a nice place that was quiet although locals used the playground quite often, and they walked their dogs a lot. There is a toilet block/changing rooms which was surprisingly clean. Theres enough rubbish bins which were frequently emptied by the local council. There were also several BBQ tables with seating available close to the beach. The view was beautiful, looking left towards Otamanewa Island, and left towards the cliff face. The sunsets and sunrises were spectacular.

A shallow, white-sand harbour beach with a small playground on the reserve beside it, Matakawau Beach is a quiet family stop on the Āwhitu Peninsula, on the Manukau Harbour side of rural Auckland. The playground was funded by the Franklin Local Board and opened in 2019 with a community party of sausage sizzle, clown show and fishing games for the kids.1
