Pukete Park

Pukete Park in St Andrews, Hamilton, has one of the city's newest neighbourhood playgrounds, a bright orange and timber build under three big shade sails on a quiet residential street. Despite the name it sits in St Andrews rather than Pukete, as one visitor pointed out. Hamilton City Council asked locals what they wanted here in early 2025, drew 74 responses, and scheduled the rebuild for late 2025.¹

Equipment

The orange swing frame has two strap seats and a basket swing, with a spinner beside it. Across the soft rubber surfacing, timber poles carry an overhead ladder, a low rope web, stepping posts and balance logs, plus a staircase up to a deck with a metal slide. Yellow and red games are painted onto the rubber for running and hopping. The mix leans towards school-age kids: there is no toddler bucket swing, and one parent found it light on options for very young children. Under-fives will still manage the stairs and slide with a hand.

Practical Info

The shade sails cover most of the play area, a real plus in a Waikato summer, and mature trees ring the park. A bench faces the swings and a picnic table sits by the slide, with open lawn around for a ball game. The playground is not fenced and the grass runs out to the road, so keep an eye on runners. Street parking is easy. No toilets showed up in the photos, and the council does not include them at smaller neighbourhood playgrounds, so plan for that.² For a second stop, Heath Park, about 600 metres away, has a smaller playground with swings, a slide and climbing gear beside big ash trees.³
