Ropers Playground

Ropers Playground at Hartford Avenue Reserve in Papamoa Beach is a family-friendly destination combining a playground and purpose-built pump track, completed in 2020. The playground and pump track are themed around the Legend of Mangatawa (Three Whales), reflecting local cultural heritage, and cater to a wide range of ages and skill levels.

Equipment

The playground is a medium-sized facility (category 2) on a bark surface with equipment including a multi-play structure with slides, swings with an infant swing, a hamster wheel, a spring toy, a junior multi-play structure, a climbing frame, and a rocker. A purpose-built pump track sits alongside the playground and is suitable for bikes, scooters, and skateboards, with an outer loop for advanced riders and an inner loop for beginners. Picnic tables and a barbecue are on site.

Access and Inclusion

The site includes an infant swing and junior multi-play structure suitable for young children. The one-way anti-clockwise pump track has a beginner inner loop. Shade sails provide sun protection for some equipment. Street parking is available along Hartford Avenue.

History and Cultural

The playground and pump track were completed in 2020 and inspired by the Legend of Mangatawa (Three Whales), a significant local Maori story connecting the land at Papamoa to ancestral narratives. The reserve serves the rapidly growing Papamoa Beach community.
