Rotary Park

Rotary Park sits high above Otago Harbour in the Waverley suburb of Dunedin, and most visitors come for the panoramic outlook and the perimeter track rather than a big play structure. The playground itself is modest, a set of swings on open grass, so it works best as a short stop paired with the view rather than a destination trip.

The park's main draw is its elevated position: from the accessible upper perimeter track, walkers, cyclists and pram users get sweeping views across the harbour toward the peninsula. Alongside the swings, the grounds include junior soccer fields, a dog exercise area and picnic spots, with hundreds of native plants established through ongoing work by local Rotary clubs and volunteers as part of a phased upgrade that also added a gravel perimeter track for walkers, runners, cyclists and prams from 2024. The park was developed by Rotary Dunedin in the early 1950s and officially opened in June 1956 to mark 50 years of Rotary International, and the club has kept an ongoing hand in its upkeep since.

Off street parking is available on site, and the nearest bus stop on Highcliff Road is about a five minute walk away.
