Te Rangi Hiroa Youth Park Adventure Playground

Te Rangi Hiroa Youth Park Adventure Playground in Ranui, west Auckland, is built for teenagers and school-age kids rather than younger toddlers, with a climbing frame, youth-scale slide, BMX track, skatepark, and half basketball court giving older children plenty of reasons to stay.

Equipment

The equipment leans hard into active, older-kid play: a climbing frame and slide sized for youths, a BMX track, a skatepark, and a half basketball court. There's no dedicated junior equipment, so this is a better stop for school-age children and teens than for toddlers. Ground surfaces mix artificial turf and bark to handle the fall zones around the play equipment, while the skatepark, BMX track, and court have their own hard surfaces.

History and Cultural

The park is named for Sir Peter Buck, known as Te Rangi Hiroa, the Maori scholar, physician, and politician who became one of the most prominent Maori leaders of the twentieth century. It opened in 2016.

Practical Info

A barbecue and drinking fountain support longer group visits, and off-street parking is available at the park. Auckland Council's asset register lists two play assets here, in the Henderson-Massey area that covers much of west Auckland.
