Wakefield Playground

Wakefield Playground on Edward Street is a small playground in the historic village of Wakefield, about 25 kilometres southwest of Nelson, notable for a region first two person swing that lets a parent and toddler swing together facing each other.

Equipment

The playground has swings including the two person swing and a standard infant swing, a multi play structure with slide, and a see saw, on bark surfacing.

Access and Inclusion

Picnic tables and seating are on site, with on street parking on Edward Street, close to the village centre.

History and Cultural

Wakefield is one of the oldest European settlements in the Nelson Tasman region. St John's Church on Edward Street, built in 1864, is one of the district's most significant heritage buildings, and the town takes its name from Edward Gibbon Wakefield, whose colonisation scheme brought early settlers to the region.
