Wanaka Station Park is a large, tranquil reserve at 62 Wanaka-Mount Aspiring Road, accessed primarily via Homestead Close. The park features a small children's playground with swings and basic play equipment, set among significant mature trees including giant sequoias, Himalayan cedars, a large walnut tree, and an enormous rhododendron hedge. The station's surviving orchard adds to the heritage character of the site. The spacious grassed areas and waterfront walkway connections make this a peaceful alternative to the busier Wanaka town centre reserves.
Access and Inclusion
Multiple access points serve the reserve: the main entrance is off Homestead Close (off Wanaka-Mount Aspiring Road), with additional entries off Norman Terrace (off Sargood Drive) and via the waterfront Waterfall Creek track. Free parking and motorhome parking are available at Homestead Close and the Stoney Creek carpark (no overnight motorhome stays). The park's open, flat terrain is generally pram and wheelchair accessible.
History and Cultural
Wanaka Station Park occupies the grounds of a historic sheep station that was a central feature of the early Wanaka pastoral economy. The mature exotic trees and orchard plantings date back to the station's operational era, and the park takes its name from this agricultural heritage. The reserve now provides a green buffer between the town's lakefront and its residential neighbourhoods, and is listed by Lonely Planet as one of Wanaka's must-visit green spaces.

Free entry, open at all times. Parking at Homestead Close carpark. Public facilities via the wider lakefront reserves. The park connects to the Te Ara Wanaka lakefront shared path. Queenstown Lakes District Council has a smokefree policy covering this playground.
