Amberley Playground sits within the Amberley Domain, the main recreation reserve for the Hurunui District's largest town, on the edge of State Highway 1 about fifty kilometres north of Christchurch. The domain is a broad, well-used open space that brings together a wide range of sports and leisure facilities in one spot, making it one of the more complete recreation hubs for a town of its size. Alongside the playground you will find a skate park, tennis and squash courts, a bowls club, playing fields for rugby, soccer and cricket, and a solar-heated public swimming pool. It is the kind of reserve that anchors an entire community's active life, and the range of facilities means a family visit here can easily fill a half-day out.
