Carisbrooke Playground

Carisbrooke Playground is a small council pocket park among the houses of Carisbrooke Street in Aranui, eastern Christchurch. Its playground sticks to the classics, with two slides, two sets of swings, monkey bars, a spinner and a see-saw, and it suits a quick after-school stop for families within walking distance more than a destination outing.

Equipment

The Christchurch City Council asset register, which spells the site Carisbrook Playground, lists seven pieces, all in service.¹ A three-seat strap swing sits beside a separate two-seat infant swing, so a baby and an older sibling can swing at the same time. Two slides, one fibreglass and one metal, are on the north side, with metal monkey bars to the west and a solo spinner near the middle. Most of the gear has been on the register since 2003, but a new metal see-saw was commissioned in June 2026.¹

The mix runs from babies on the infant seats to primary schoolers on the monkey bars. The register lists no larger modular climbing structure, so older kids after a big fort or tower will run out of things to do quickly.¹

Practical Info

Parking is on Carisbrooke Street, a two-lane residential road with a 50 km/h limit.² We have no record of fencing or toilets here, so keep an eye on small runners near the road edge and plan the toilet stop before you go. For a change of scene, Bexley Reserve Playground is about 400 m to the south-east, and Wainoni Park, under a kilometre west, has the Aranui-Wainoni Community Centre and the Aranui Library close by.³
