Eastern Beach Playground

Eastern Beach Playground sits right across the esplanade from Auckland's Eastern Beach, its climbing structures built around a boat shaped theme that nods to the water just metres away. A fully fenced perimeter and separate junior zone make it a comfortable stop for toddlers as well as older kids heading to the sand afterward.

Equipment

The play area centres on multi-play structures with slides, plus balance logs and a spring toy for younger climbers. Swings include a standard set, an infant swing and a basket swing. A separately fenced junior area has its own slide suited to a young child with some assistance and a spring toy scaled to size. The fall zones are surfaced in bark.

History and Cultural

Eastern Beach was carved out of the old Buckland farm and subdivided into a housing estate in 1923, quickly becoming a popular Auckland holiday spot through the following decades, a reputation the beach still trades on. This playground has been on site since at least 2019.

Practical Info

Toilets, a drinking fountain, picnic tables, seating and a beach shower for rinsing off sand are all on site, and parking runs to on street spaces along the esplanade. Shade over the equipment itself is minimal, though the picnic table and some seating sit under tree cover. The beach is a direct walk from the playground, with a dedicated water ski zone at its southern end.
