Hickford Park
Bell Block, New Plymouth 4312
Why these ages?
Multi-play, see-saw, infant + basket swings, bowl rocker, plus recent (2025) sunshade sails - genuinely toddler-usable. Skatepark and BMX/pump track sit alongside so wheels have their own space rather than mixing with the swings. Deliberate spatial separation, but scooters and skateboarders still move through the reserve. Solid for 5-10, tweens get skate/BMX pull.
Access notes
Description explicitly states the playground sits on bark surfacing, a barrier for wheelchair users, though footpaths and cycleways connect the park to the wider Coastal Walkway network and roadside parking sits right at the gate.
What's here
Hickford Park's playground is a medium sized set on bark surfacing that has served Bell Block families since before 2019, built to suit a wide range of ages from toddlers through to primary schoolers. It sits right next to the skatepark, so older kids on wheels have their own space rather than competing for room with the swings, and the whole reserve sits about eight kilometres from central New Plymouth on Smeaton Road, alongside three fields used for rugby, soccer and cricket through the seasons.
