Hyperion Drive Playground

Hyperion Park is a wide grassy reserve in Randwick Park, Manurewa, in south Auckland, and its playground sits out in the middle of the lawn with plenty of room around it for a kick-about or a picnic rug. Auckland Council lists it as a public-access playground at 32R Hyperion Drive.¹

Equipment

Aerial imagery shows one compact pad with a loose-fill surface holding a small platform tower and slide, a second linked platform with climbing pieces, and a two-bay swing frame with four seats. It is a modest set-up, and one parent who visited said as much, but added that their child loved how many things there were to climb. The scale suits under-fives and early primary kids more than older children hunting for a big challenge.

Practical Info

The play area is open on every side with no fence, and Hyperion Drive runs along the park's south-eastern edge about 30 m from the equipment, so keep an eye on runners.² Big mature trees are dotted across the lawn, but none of them shade the play pad, so bring hats on a sunny day. There are no toilets or car park at the reserve; parking is on the surrounding streets. The same visitor singled out the open grass as great for family sport and picnics. For a change of scene, Shifnal Playground and Randwick Skatepark are both about 400 m away as the crow flies.
