Shifnal Drive Reserve is a corner of open grass where Shifnal Drive meets Trimdon Street in Randwick Park, Manurewa, and its small playground sits in the middle of it with a basketball half-court a few steps away. This is a neighbourhood stop in south Auckland rather than a destination, and one reviewer summed it up simply as a nice big open space.
Equipment
Auckland Council's asset register lists the reserve as a public-access playground.1 Aerial imagery shows a compact strip of loose bark-style surfacing with a small tower, short blue slide and curved climber at the northern end, a swing frame at the southern end, and one round piece of equipment between them. That mix suits under-fives and early primary ages best. For older kids the draw is the council-owned basketball half-court just south of the play area.2
Practical Info
The reserve is open on every side. Bollards line the road edges but there is no fence, so keep toddlers close with two streets this near. The trees are young and nothing shades the equipment, so pack hats on a sunny day. Benches sit beside the play area, paths cross the lawn from the surrounding streets, and parking is on the street. There is no toilet block on the reserve. A recent visitor found it clean and well kept, with contractors at work nearby.
For a longer outing, Hyperion Drive Playground is about 400 m away, and Randwick Park, under a kilometre off, has a fuller playground with a flying fox, a large skate park and toilets.3
