Kotuku Park is a pocket of lawn tucked between the townhouses of Hobsonville, Auckland, and its playground is a single swing set: an orange arched frame standing on rubber safety matting near the street corner. It is the kind of spot you walk to with a little one, swing for twenty minutes and wander home.
Equipment
Auckland Council's asset register lists a public-access playground at Kotuku Park, recorded under Ponga Street.1 Photos show the swings over a grey and blue rubber surface set into the grass, with the rest of the reserve left as open lawn for running about. There is nothing to climb or slide on, so it suits toddlers and younger children best, and older kids will be done quickly. One reviewer calls it a good community park for kids and family, and another singles out the swing.
Spring is the time to come. An apple tree stands beside the swings, and visitor photos catch it in blossom alongside feijoa flowers.
Practical Info
The lawn runs out to the footpath and road without a fence, so keep an eye on runners. Neither a toilet block nor a shade sail shows up in the photos or the aerial view, and parking is on the surrounding residential streets.
For a bigger outing, Hobsonville Point Playground, with its award-winning rust-coloured seed pod climbing structures, is about 350 metres away,2 and Headquarters Park & Playground is around 600 metres away.
