Kowhai Park Flying Fox

The playground at Kowhai Park in Whanganui East is a very large, themed play space packed with novelty equipment, from slides built into giant boots to swings hung from an octopus structure and snake and dinosaur shaped play features. A rocket ship, a whale statue, spinners, a boat, and a Humpty Dumpty figure sit alongside a flying fox, an accessibility swing, and a splash pad.

Equipment

The flying fox is one of the park's signature features, alongside novelty play pieces including boot shaped slides, an octopus structure with swings, snake swings, and a dinosaur slide. A rocket ship, whale statue, boat, spinners, and Humpty Dumpty figure add further characterful equipment. Public toilets, a drinking fountain, a barbecue, picnic tables, and seating are all on site, along with a pump track. Cover over the play equipment itself is minimal, though gazebos and trees shade the picnic tables. Whanganui District Council applies a smokefree policy across its green spaces.
