Mount Eden Playground

Potters Park's playground in Mount Eden is built around a central water splash pad, a hit with toddlers through primary-school-age kids on hot days, with tip buckets, mist jets and ground-level fountains at child height. It's a genuine summer destination that draws families well beyond the immediate streets, backed by a full run of dry-weather equipment for the rest of the year.

Equipment

The splash pad runs daily from 10am to 8pm through summer. Surrounding play equipment includes a tubular slide, an embankment slide, swings including an infant swing and a basket swing, tunnels, a disc rocker and balance logs. The playground is fully fenced with a bark surface. A half basketball court sits alongside, and a band rotunda hosts community events and doubles as extra sheltered space. At the eastern end of the three-hectare park, a learn-to-ride track gives beginner cyclists and scooter riders a dedicated circuit away from the main play area.

Access and Inclusion

Pathways through the park are flat or gently sloping, suitable for prams, mobility aids and recreational cycling. Accessible toilets and changing rooms sit directly beside both the playground and the splash pad. The park is on the corner of Balmoral and Dominion Roads and is served by the Outer Link bus route on Dominion Road.

History and Cultural

The park takes its name from the Potters family, long established in the Mount Eden and Kingsland area. Its splash pad, installed in 2013, was Auckland's first dedicated water splash pad.

Practical Info

There is no dedicated off-street car park, so parking is on the surrounding streets. Two BBQs and a drinking fountain are on site alongside the play equipment.
