Mount Pisa Playground is the neighbourhood play space for the Pisa Moorings settlement on the western shore of Lake Dunstan, about nine kilometres north of Cromwell and forty-five kilometres from Wanaka in the Central Otago region. The playground sits within Dustin Park, a foreshore reserve off Ferry Lane that provides families with direct lake access, picnic space, and a connection to the Lake Dunstan Trail, making it far more than a standalone play stop.
Pisa Moorings is a small and growing lakeside community of around 980 residents, squeezed between Lake Dunstan to the east and State Highway 6 to the west and backed by the steep slopes of the Pisa Range. The settlement has expanded considerably since the mid-2000s, with holiday homes and permanent residences clustered along the foreshore. The reserve sits at the heart of the settlement, and Dustin Park functions as the community's primary outdoor gathering space. The Lake Dunstan Trail passes directly through or adjacent to the park, meaning the playground gets traffic not only from local families but also from cyclists and walkers doing the popular day-ride between Cromwell and Pisa Moorings. There are public toilets at the park, installed in 2013 to serve trail users and those accessing the lake for recreation.
The play equipment is compact and well-suited to the settlement's mix of visiting and local families. The main features are a large rope climbing net, a swing unit, an embankment slide, and a supernova spinner. The combination covers a useful spread of physical play: upper-body strength on the net, momentum and balance on the spinner, and straightforward active play on the swings and slide. The climbing net in particular tends to draw children in and keep them occupied for longer than simpler equipment would. The playground is suited roughly to children aged three to eleven, with the net and spinner holding more appeal for older kids and the swings and slide working well for the toddler end of that range.
The wider Dustin Park reserve adds considerably to the appeal. The foreshore position means there is lake frontage within easy walking distance of the equipment, and on calm summer days the lake is used for swimming and boating. The picnic facilities make the park a genuine half-day destination: families can play, eat, and then explore the lakeside trail without getting back in the car. The Lake Dunstan Trail here is flat and manageable for younger riders, and the Cromwell to Pisa Moorings section is frequently listed as one of the better family bike ride options in the Central Otago region.
The playground is best treated as part of a broader lake-and-mountain day out. Cromwell, nine kilometres south, has a good range of cafes, the Highlands Motorsport Park, and the Cromwell Heritage Precinct. Wanaka is forty-five kilometres to the north and offers a wider range of family activities. Pisa Moorings itself is quiet and residential, with no commercial strip of its own.
Parking is available at Dustin Park, and the public toilets are on site. The playground is managed by the Central Otago District Council as part of the Cromwell area parks network. Families looking for a scenic off-highway stop between Cromwell and Wanaka will find it covers the brief comfortably.
