Pepe Reserve

Pepe Reserve's playground in Tairua centres on a rocktopus climbing structure, backed by a bowl rocker, a basket swing and standard swings with a dedicated infant seat, right on Main Road North close enough to the water for a swim afterwards.

Equipment

A junior slide and smaller scale gear give toddlers their own patch alongside the climbing structure, so the reserve works across a real mix of ages. The playground opened in 2013 and sits on bark surfacing, with some tree shade over the equipment.

History and Cultural

Tairua's Matariki ki Tairua celebrations and a Christmas in the Park event have both been held at Pepe Reserve, tying it into the town's outdoor community calendar.

Practical Info

Public toilets and picnic tables are on site, parking is off street, and the reserve sits adjacent to the beach, so packing togs alongside the usual playground gear is worth it. Cafes and fish and chip shops are a short walk away on Main Road.
