Playgrounds in Thames-Coromandel

Given Grove's twin flying foxes are the play that gets requested by name across the peninsula: two riders launch from the same platform at Pauanui, one racing the other to the end of the line, and word of it travels between the beach towns fast. That's the shape of Thames-Coromandel's playground map, no single big-town cluster, just one strong build apiece in Whitianga, Tairua, Pauanui, Hahei and Whangamatā doing its own beach town's after-swim duty, plus Thames holding the western, inland end. Tairua's Pepe Reserve and Hahei's community build are the quieter alternatives, both a short walk from the water, with toilets and parking at Pepe Reserve. Whangamatā's adventure playground sits in the middle of the surf town on Port Road for the same after-beach routine. Summer school holidays are the crush here; January mornings beat afternoons everywhere on this list, and Thames is the shoulder-season pick when the coast crowds up, with proper shade over the Queen Street site.
