Source: services1.arcgis.comHistoryRay Blank Park was established in 1962 by the Waimairi County Council as part of the Maidstone Road subdivision, and named after Albert Raymond (Ray) Blank in recognition of his long service as a member of the Waimairi County Council.
Source: my.christchurchcitylibraries.comHistoryRay Blank (1887–1963) was headmaster of Fendalton School from 1922 to 1949, introducing the first open-air classrooms in New Zealand, and received an MBE in 1953 for services to education. He served on the Waimairi County Council from 1953 to 1962, chairing it and heading the Works Committee. He championed development of Jellie Park and Burnside Park. In sport he won numerous Canterbury golf titles, served as president of the New Zealand Golf Association, and designed the Harewood, Waimairi, Waitikiri, and Windsor club courses. He also founded the Canterbury Surf Life Saving Association.

The event brings together over 86 cultural groups with food stalls, traditional dance and music, and have-a-go activities. The 2024 edition (February 17) was the final Culture Galore at Ray Blank Park; from 2026 the festival moves to the Multicultural Recreation and Community Centre at 455 Hagley Avenue.
