Ray Blank Park Playground

Ray Blank Park's playground in Christchurch's Fendalton area pairs a rocktopus climbing structure and a solo spinner with spring toys and swings that include an infant seat, an easy stop for toddlers through to early primary kids.

History and Cultural

The park was formed in 1962 by the Waimairi County Council as part of the Maidstone Road subdivision and named after Albert Raymond "Ray" Blank, a former Fendalton School headmaster, MBE recipient, and long-serving county councillor who also championed the development of nearby Jellie Park and Burnside Park. For over two decades the park hosted Christchurch's Culture Galore multicultural festival, bringing together more than 80 cultural groups for food, dance and music each February; the 2024 event was the last held here before the festival moved to a dedicated venue on Hagley Avenue.

Practical Info

Public toilets and picnic tables are on site. There's little shade over the equipment itself, though one established tree offers some cover for spectators. On-street parking is available around the park.
