Westburn Reserve and Kids Bike Park is a great park for kids! I highly recommend this park for parents that are struggling for ideas of what to do during the weekends. I bought my niece and nephew here after finding it on the city council website. This park/reserve features a fun play ground with a big slide and see saw set as well as a bike park which has a one lane bridge and railway crossing (both are fake and completely safe). This reserve also has public toilets onsite and a picnic table for families.
Westburn Reserve Playground
Burnside, Christchurch 8041
Why these ages?
Signature attraction is a traffic-free mini road network with roundabouts, give-way signs, bridge and railway crossing - ideal 3-10 bike learners. 2025 refresh added swings with toddler and accessible seats, double wave slide, Orex carousel on Matta Tiles. Compact and visible from seating. Quiet residential setting off Westburn Terrace. Not perimeter fenced so toddler zone rather than toddler-friendly.
Access notes
The description explicitly names an accessible seat on the swing set, an accessible unisex toilet, a Matta tile rubber play surface and smooth concrete paths across the site, all under the Equipment and Access and Inclusion sections, with no mention of stairs or bark.
What's here
Westburn Reserve in Burnside is where generations of Christchurch families have sent children to learn to ride. The park's main drawcard is a complete mini road network on Westburn Terrace: smooth concrete paths laid out with roundabouts, give way and stop signs, a railroad crossing, pedestrian crossings and a one way bridge, giving young riders a real introduction to road rules in a traffic free setting. Best for ages 3 to 10.
