Riverhead War Memorial Playground

Riverhead War Memorial Playground sits beside the town's memorial reserve in Auckland's Rodney area, and it is one of the more generously equipped play spaces in the outer northwest.

Equipment

The line up is varied for a community park: a multi play structure with a tubular slide, a standard swing set, spring toys, a see saw, inground trampolines, an inground carousel, a swing bridge, musical play panels, an embankment slide, and a playhouse. A fenced junior zone groups the inground trampoline, musical play, playhouse, and spring toys for toddlers. Twin adventure towers and colourful perch seating round out equipment suited to all ages. Bark chip covers the play area, with minimal tree shade over the equipment and picnic tables and no shade over general seating.

History and Cultural

The playground sits inside Riverhead War Memorial Park, a working memorial reserve that also hosts club rugby, cricket, tennis, netball, and bowls for the Riverhead community. The Rodney Local Board consulted the community on a playground upgrade in 2019, with construction following in the 2020/21 summer, and the park has continued to gain new features since, including a skatepark with sculptural elements by artist Levi Hawken.

Practical Info

Picnic tables and off street parking are on site, and toilet facilities are located nearby on Coatesville Riverhead Highway. Auckland Council's smokefree policy applies.
