Teviot Reserve is a pocket of lawn hidden behind the houses of a Tōtara Vale block, with a small playground near its middle, well back from any road. Auckland Council lists it as a public playground at 6 Teviot Place on Auckland's North Shore,1 and it is the kind of quiet, close-to-home play you walk to rather than drive to.
Equipment
The playground was renewed in 2018, when the Kaipātiki Local Board reported it handed back to council maintenance after the upgrade.2 Aerial imagery shows one compact, edged pit of loose surfacing holding a swing set, a seesaw, a domed rope climber, a small play unit with a slide and a few stepping pieces. It is a set for under-fives and younger primary kids rather than a destination for older children.
Practical Info
Houses ring the reserve, and a concrete path crosses the grass right beside the play pit, with a bench next to it. We could not see a fence around the pit itself, but the street is a good distance away, which makes it a calmer spot for a wandering toddler than a roadside play. The equipment sits in full sun, while a stand of big trees just south of it shades part of the lawn, and the open grass has room for a ball game or a picnic rug. We found no record of toilets or a car park, so plan on street parking on Teviot Place. For more variety, Wanita Reserve is about 300 metres away and Totaravale Reserve playground about 600 metres.
