Takaro a Poi, better known as the Margaret Mahy Family Playground, is the largest playground in the Southern Hemisphere at 2.5 hectares, built around a 10 metre climbing tower and four zones that echo Canterbury's geography. It suits a full range of ages, from toddlers in the sandpit to older kids racing the flying foxes, and easily fills half a day beside the Avon River in the central city.

The most playful place in Christchurch. My family really enjoyed stying here. It is located just beside the river we could watch so many birds and picnic area was absolutely fantastic. Every kids were happy and played together with smile. Lovely place lovely time.

What a great park to spend the day at , coin operated bbqs, fish and chip cart that are delicious , donut cart , ice cream cart . Great water play area for the warmer days . Close buy is a bike pump track and other cafes . Loads of parking .What a great spot on the central city .

What a great playground! So many fun and interesting objects to interact with. Great slides, including a three story spiral tube slide. There’s also a fun waterpark area where kids can pump water and manipulate where it goes. A great place for kids to have fun and explore physics.

Impressive creation! This huge playground off Manchester Street is amazing. There are dozens of things to swing and climb up. My kids favourite is the double flying fox, because they can race each other. There are food outlets BBQs and toilets too.

The playground has many attractions like slides, swings, a sandpit, and a lot of toys to develop new skills like climbing, balance and others. It also has a water play area that's amazing! I really recommend it!

Love it, it does get busy though. The mini trampolines and slides are stand out. This park is fun for different ages. There is also flying fox & food carts within close proximity

Great place for all ages with food stalls close by for a quick treat. Can easily lose track of time in all the different areas to explore and play in. With plenty of seating as well. Noticed the e-scooters are restricted from entering the area, a big safety plus for me. Public bathrooms on-site too.

It is a versatile park, my daughter enjoyed it so much when we were in Christchurch. Its made creatively, is in a central location and often has food vans too. The water play area is fun too. Mostly for kids over 4 years.
