A very fine and cute little lake. On a sunny early summer day, the sight of a flock of wild ducks playing happily in the lake is really relaxing and healing. There is a sports ground and playground next to the lake. There's a small road to drive in. I found signage stating that no cars are allowed at night, but Google Map doesn't show this road or navigation.
Tinwald Domain
Tinwald, Ashburton 7778
Why these ages?
Junior-scaled play with infant swing, tyre swing, small multi-play on bark - genuinely toddler-scaled equipment. Domain has a duck pond and swimming pool nearby (water risk), but the playground itself sits away from the water so a parent with line-of-sight is fine. Not a destination for older kids or tweens.
Access notes
The flat, open layout suits families with pushchairs, but the description states the surface throughout the play area is bark, a hard blocker once a wheelchair user reaches the equipment.
What's here
Tinwald Domain's playground is a medium-sized, straightforward play space within the much larger Tinwald Domain reserve on the southern edge of Ashburton, offering swings, a slide and a small junior structure on a bark surface for younger children.
