Wairoa Playground

Wairoa Playground sits on Marine Parade alongside the river that gives the town its name, a fully gated play area opened in December 2017 that is the main destination playground for families in this northern Hawke's Bay town.

Equipment

The flying fox is the main drawcard, backed by two large tunnel slides, a climbing frame, a rope bridge, monkey bars, a rope climb, bucket and long swings, and a dedicated bike track. A wheelchair accessible swing sits on stable soft matting, with the rest of the equipment on bark chip.

Access and Inclusion

Toddlers have bucket swings, low slides and the contained sightlines a fully fenced area gives parents, while primary aged children get the flying fox, tunnel slides and rope elements. The wheelchair accessible swing extends the play offer to a wider range of visitors.

Practical Info

A sheltered BBQ area, toilets, a drinking fountain and picnic tables all sit within the gates, with a free carpark including accessible spaces. A separate skate bowl just outside keeps wheeled traffic away from the fenced play area, and the riverbank walkway connects straight into the town centre.
