Westview Reserve

Westview Reserve in Darfield is a community playground with a flying fox among its standout equipment, part of the wider Westview Park precinct beside a Four Square and the restored Homebush Rail Station.

Equipment

The council asset register also lists a hoop, a climbing net, a slide, and a swing set with an infant seat. Bark covers the fall zones, with picnic tables and some tree shade over the equipment and seating.

History and Cultural

Darfield sits on the Canterbury Plains about 35 kilometres west of Christchurch, renamed from Horndon Junction in 1879 after Darfield in Yorkshire. The Homebush Rail Station preserved in Westview Park relates to the old Whitecliffs Branch railway, which closed in 1962. The station building was donated by the Slattery family estate, restored, and reopened in 2015.
