Whale Tail Park is the fenced playground on Kopipi Crescent in Ngunguru, the estuary settlement whose name means "rumbling tides", 26 km north-east of Whangārei.1 The play area is new: it was rebuilt in 2024, and pupils from Ngunguru School, about a kilometre away, had a say in the design.2

Fully fenced - here I want to put just a full stop to indicate just how important that factor is to a caregivers sense of security... however, it's a good little stop for families on the way back from the coast and indeed the surrounding area. It was much appreciated. Thank you to the locals who increased its value out of their own pockets - You Rock.

It really needs updating and the equipment cleaned, but otherwise, it's an awesome park that's fully fenced so the kids can just run around.

My grand daughters loved it. We took our fish and chips and ate at the BBQ table right next to the play ground. They have already asked if we can go back another day.
