Why these ages?

Fully accessible design with continuous soft rubber surface means no trip hazards for wandering 2-4yos, plus fencing tag and an infant swing seat. Wheelchair-accessible carousel, sensory panels, speaking tubes and hamster wheel are toddler-friendly extras. Primary schoolers get climbing structures, slides and a half basketball court with adjustable hoop. Tweens will likely find it undersized - one reviewer calls the playground 'a bit boring'. No water, road, tall or skate hazards on site.

Access notes

Description says a continuous soft rubber surface lets wheelchairs, walkers and prams reach every piece of equipment, with a wheelchair accessible carousel, sensory panels, and a swing set chosen for children who use mobility aids. The text never says the chair itself boards the swing, so this is a transfer in seat. Accessible public toilets are on site too.

I used to love this place as a kid, it is good for rugby or sporting activities. Even to let the family dog(s) get out for a bit of a run. There are toilets, by the Southern Rugby club rooms. Only downer is, having people drink down there sometimes, during the week.

Grass cut, playground tidy, didn't see any graffiti or rubbish. Did see people with little to no re call on their dogs which is a worry so close to a playground though.

Southern Rugby Club - I was there to watch my youngest play rugby (junior grades). The club is great, people are friendly - like that they have a tuck shop there open from the first games. Very handy on the cold winter mornings where you can pick up a hot coffee or some food when you are watching games. Great club

My son always enjoys a bird life on the fields or watching people's dogs, generally tidy although cans and bottles seem to be an ongoing problem.

Being split into 3 suburbs is intriguing and cool, with tons of running and sporty space for joy, as well as a small playground which is a bit boring but the Dunedin City Council has major goals for the playground.

You can’t buy Baths or Gates here. The nomenclature is very misleading. But if you want to join the Mongrel Mob, the Southern Rugby Football Club is here and they’ll get you patched up in no time at all.
