Bathgate Park Playground

Bathgate Park Playground in South Dunedin is one of the city's most fully accessible playgrounds, built around a wheelchair accessible carousel and a continuous soft rubber matting surface that connects every piece of equipment, so wheelchairs, walkers and strollers can move around without hitting a bark or gravel transition.

Alongside the carousel, the equipment includes swings with an infant bay, an accessibility swing, a hamster wheel, a slide, musical play panels, speaking tubes and a half basketball court, with a basket swing and an in ground carousel scaled for junior users. The hamster wheel is a genuine standout, one of relatively few in Dunedin. The playground has been built within the last five years, and the sensory elements, musical panels and speaking tubes in particular, draw in children across a wide range of abilities, not just those using the accessibility swing or carousel.

Public toilets are on site, and off-street parking makes drop off straightforward with a pushchair or wheelchair. The surrounding Bathgate Park gives extra open green space for a longer outing beyond the playground itself.
