Boyd Park

Boyd Park in Te Aroha pairs a playground, built in 2018, with a BMX track and easy access to the Howarth Memorial Wetland, making it one of the more varied free stops in town. The playground itself is compact but well equipped, with a multi-play structure and a mix of infant and basket swings.

Equipment

Slides on the multi-play structure suit a range of ages, and the infant and basket swings give younger children their own spot. Surfacing is artificial, and while there's no shade over the play equipment directly, established trees elsewhere in the park provide shade for spectators.

History and Cultural

The park's land has had a long working life, used at various points as a golf course, a motor camp, an A&P showground, a rugby field and even a rubbish dump before the old Te Aroha Borough Council took it over in 1968; it was previously known as Stanley Avenue Recreation Reserve. Today about two-thirds of the park is the Howarth Memorial Wetland, with its own walking track and a bird-watching hut.

Toilets and two car park areas serve the park, with on-street angle parking also available, and the playground itself has picnic tables. Council operates a smokefree policy across the site. Boyd Park sits on the corner of Stanley Avenue and Spur Street and is Te Aroha's main sportsground, also home to a BMX track.
