Thomas Park

Thomas Park's playground in central Morrinsville was reimagined through a community-led redesign that leaned into local character, right down to a cowskin-patterned wet-pour surface underfoot and a mural built from local children's artwork. The equipment mix is broad, from climbing nets and scrambling hills to individual-play pieces like rockers and a hammock.

Equipment

A tower with a tubular slide, climbing nets, a seesaw and swings, including infant and basket swings, sit alongside scrambling hills, stepping logs and rope-work elements added in the redesign. Percussion play, a trampoline and rockers give quieter, more individual play options, and a hammock adds a relaxed spot for younger visitors. A fenced junior area keeps the youngest children separate.

History and Cultural

The redesign incorporated local iwi motifs alongside the children's-artwork mural, reflecting the surrounding Morrinsville community.

Practical Info

Seating is on site, with off-street parking nearby. There's no shade directly over the equipment, though large established trees provide cover for spectators. Thomas Park sits on the corner of Anderson Street and Moorhouse Street, and council operates a smokefree policy across the site.
