Herries Park

Herries Park's playground sits in the northern half of this Te Aroha reserve, a small bark-based play area with a carriage swing and a multi-play structure with a slide, shaded by trees and set beside the park's public toilets and barbecue.

Equipment

The carriage swing and slide suit younger children best. The play area is one of the district's smaller sites, with bark underfoot and mature trees providing good midday shade over the equipment and picnic table.

History and Cultural

The park takes its name from Sir William Herries, a Piako county councillor and long-serving MP for Tauranga, whose bequest helped establish it. The southern half is leased for grazing and includes a go-kart track, while an athletics club has used the northern sports ground each summer for more than 60 years.

Practical Info

Off-street parking, toilets, a barbecue and seating are on site, and Matamata-Piako District Council operates a smokefree policy across the park.
