Centennial Park

Centennial Park in Te Awamutu pairs a small playground with a much bigger skate and action sports precinct, so it suits families with a mix of younger children and older skaters or scooter riders more than toddlers alone. The playground section is fenced and includes a basket swing, swings, mounds and an inground carousel.

Equipment

Alongside the fenced junior play area, the roughly 1,000 square metre skate bowl (built by Acid NZ) has quarter pipes, grind rails, banks, a jump box and ledges, plus a basketball half court, a parkour area and a scooter pump track open 24 hours.

Access and Inclusion

The fenced junior area and nearby seating make the playground itself manageable for families with younger children, while the skate precinct sits far enough away to keep faster wheeled traffic separate.

History and Cultural

The park overlooks the site of the historic Otawhao Mission Station and Otawhao Pa, an area of real significance to the region, and holds a 1914 steam locomotive (NZR Class A no. 1317) preserved on site since 1960.
