Big old trees and a compact patch of play equipment share a grassy island of a reserve in East Tāmaki, Auckland, with residential streets on every side. When Auckland Council listed Clavoy Park among its new or recently upgraded play spots in 2014, it called it a small neighbourhood play space for older kids aged 8 to 13,1 which makes this playground better for a quick after-school climb than a toddler morning.
Equipment
The play area is a single edged pad of loose surfacing set into the lawn, just south of the tree canopy. From above you can make out a metal climbing frame on one side and a bright yellow piece of equipment beside it; we have no close-up photos yet, so treat that as an outline rather than the full list. One reviewer found it small but more extensive than it looks, and another rates the big trees as good tree house trees. The Howick Local Board put Clavoy Park down for minor upgrades in 2023.2
Practical Info
The reserve sits at 5R Clavoy Place3 with no fence between the play pad and the surrounding roads, so keep a hand on younger siblings who bolt. Parking is on the street and there is no toilet block. The canopy throws shade over part of the play pad, and the open lawn to the south has room for a ball game or a picnic rug. Reviewers describe it as a calm spot, the kind of place you stop and sit for a few minutes on a neighbourhood walk.
For a playground crawl, Redcastle Park playground is under 400 metres away, and Rialto Park and Wayne Francis Park playgrounds are each about 400 metres in other directions.
