Elliott Park

Elliott Park is a community sports park in the Nawton suburb of Hamilton that combines a refreshed playground with a concrete street-focused skatepark, a half-basketball court, and five sports fields. The play area sits alongside the skatepark so adults can watch both zones from one vantage point, making it one of the better-equipped multi-activity parks in west Hamilton for families with children of different ages.

Equipment

The playground includes swings with an infant swing and a basket swing, a multi-play structure with slide, and a balance board. Adjacent to the playground is a half-basketball court and a concrete street skatepark with quarter pipes, rails, handrails, banks, stairs, ledges, manual boxes, and an A-frame. The skatepark suits beginners through to experienced riders and is open to skateboards, scooters, and BMX.

History and Cultural

The park is named after the Elliott family, who owned the land on which Fraser High School now stands. The school borders the park to the east, and the Western Community Centre sits within the park grounds. Five sports fields and two cricket pitches support Fraser Tech Sports and other club activity through the year.

Access and Inclusion

The park fronts Hyde Avenue with additional entry points off Leyton Place and Livingstone Avenue. Flat sealed paths connect the playground, skatepark, courts, and fields. Four toilet blocks and changing rooms with accessible showers are on site.

Practical Info

Off-street parking for 65 vehicles is available from Hyde Avenue. The playground sits within Hamilton City Council's smokefree green spaces policy. A gazebo covers one picnic table near the play area, though shade over the play equipment is limited, so sun protection is advisable in summer.
