I’m extremely disappointed with the recent redevelopment of Homebush Park. The old playground was beautiful and complemented the stunning natural surroundings, but the new design is cheap, bulky, and completely out of place. The excessive use of sawdust, industrial-looking materials, and raised wooden edging has turned this once-charming park into an eyesore. To make it worse, the open grassy field has been sacrificed for oversized, clunky equipment that doesn’t fit the environment at all. With such an incredible view of the city and surrounding nature, this could have been one of the most scenic parks in Wellington. Instead, it’s become the worst playground I’ve seen in the country—such a wasted opportunity. I sincerely hope future projects prioritize harmony with the natural environment and take into account the community’s needs and feedback. This is a real disappointment for locals and visitors alike.

Playpark with the best views in Wellington. Play equipment has been recently updated with a cool slide, swings, and a flying fox. May 2025

What an amazing find. A mostly flat field with a collection of playground equipment, with the best view from a swing, ever! The field is surrounded by native bush, and the birds love it. Only downer is the lack of parking, but perhaps that is why it is so quiet. But don't go there is a southerly :)

Amazing views. Wellington's best kept secret. On a full moon day, the reflection on the waters is just breathtaking
