Kilimanjaro Park

Kilimanjaro Park is a small neighbourhood playground tucked into the residential streets of Northpark, in the Botany Downs pocket of East Auckland, bordered by Shamrock Park and Huntington Park. The play area centres on a multi-play structure with a slide, paired with swings that include a dedicated infant seat, making it a workable stop for children from toddler age through to early primary school.

History and Cultural

Kilimanjaro Drive takes its name from the African mountain, part of a naming theme used across the Northpark subdivision, developed from the 1990s as part of the Botany Downs growth corridor that expanded Auckland's southeastern suburbs. The playground itself dates from around 2011, making it a comparatively recent addition next to some of the area's older reserves.

Kilimanjaro Park sits at 42R Kilimanjaro Drive, Northpark, a Neighbourhood Park within the surrounding residential streets. There's no off street car park, so visitors park on Kilimanjaro Drive and nearby residential streets. No shade covers the play equipment or seating, though established trees elsewhere in the reserve provide some relief, so sun hats are worth packing for a midday visit. The park is smokefree, as with all Auckland Council green spaces.
