Why these ages?

Description explicitly says the playground itself suits primary school age children, with a mix of climbing, swinging and open running space. Real draws for tweens are the 400m BMX track (bermed turns, jumps) and the Matatiki Centre pools next door - great for 5-12+. Toddlers get very little on the playground itself; BMX Sprocket programme starts at age 3 but that's structured, not let-loose. Park sits between the southern motorway and railway line with a wetland - not toddler let-loose territory.

Kyle Park is a nine hectare reserve in Hornby that pairs a children's playground with one of Christchurch's most active BMX tracks, plus the Hornby Matatiki Centre on its eastern edge. It works well for families who want to combine a playground visit with swimming, biking or a library trip in one stop.

Kyle Park, a great place for a bike and is a must if in Hornby area. The whole park consists of a wetland, bike track and park. Walking around, a vibrant place and it was great to watch people do the track. The bumps seem quite steep on the track but is doable. The quality of the track is great and well cared for but there is some change in terrain from Concrete to Gravel. Overall a great place to go and will be back soon!
