Broomfield Playground

Broomfield Playground on Vanguard Drive is a compact neighbourhood playground in the Broomfield area of Christchurch that works across a wider age span than its footprint suggests, thanks to a glider alongside the standard swings. Most playgrounds this size stop at swings alone, and the glider gives a different motion experience that tends to attract children who have grown out of a baby swing but still want something to ride. Best for ages two to ten.

Equipment

The play zone includes a multi-play structure with slide, swings with an infant seat, and the glider, on a bark surface covering roughly 448 square metres. A half basketball court sits within the wider reserve for older children who want a structured game option, and open grass extends well beyond the equipment, giving children room to run between turns. Established trees provide shade for some of the equipment and for spectators.

On street parking is available on Vanguard Drive and the surrounding streets. The reserve is flat and unfenced, opening onto open grass, so families with toddlers who wander should stay attentive near the street edge. No dedicated public toilets are confirmed on site, worth bearing in mind for longer visits with young children.
