Why these ages?

2020-21 upgrade deliberately targeted 5-12yos after consultation identified a gap for older kids — cargo net, rock wall, spring balance boards and spinner reflect that. Infant swing, basket swing and spring toys give a 2-4yo something but reviewer sums it up: 'for older children but my 2 year old liked the swing and slide'. Picnic tables with good sightlines for caregivers.

Matai Road Reserve's playground in Raumati Beach sits alongside a community garden and the home of the Kapiti Arts and Crafts Society, renewed as part of a 2020 to 21 Kapiti Coast District Council upgrade that specifically targeted equipment for older children.

    Great little playground, with swings including basket swing, spider rope climbing frame, rope net, climbing wall, slide and other balance/climbing bits. Good shade under some large trees. Playground in excellent condition. Edit - two new picnic tables have been installed since our last visit
