Kaikohe's Memorial Park reopened in 2023 around a wheelchair accessible playground, next to a basketball court painted in a bold Niho Taniwha pattern that local kids helped design. One street south of the town centre, it is a handy Northland stop for running off a long car trip.

Memorial Park in Kaikohe is a fantastic spot with plenty to offer for everyone! The skate park, playground, and basketball courts provide a great variety of activities, making it perfect for kids and adults alike. The shaded areas with benches are great for relaxing, and the built-in BBQs make it an excellent place for gatherings or picnics. Public restrooms on-site are a convenient addition, making the park even more accommodating. A well-maintained space that caters to the community

Why is it so hard to get the toilet paper off the holder. It's so budget that every time you pull it rips one piece. Small towns never look after anything. Park was filthy and only one toilet was in use. How embarrassing as my family are from here. I was just visiting. Kaikohe has become a dump.

My children play hockey. Love it. My only complain is the toilets so far away

Playground, picnic spots, limited tables, big trees and a massive skatepark with a fully tarsealed court to the edge. Modest gardens. Easy to find one street South of the West end of CBD with plenty of roadside parking and substantial off-street parking available within 100m at local supermarkets, McDonald's and other retailers. Public toilets about 300m away adjacent to the Kaikohe public library. This site is enjoyed by visitors, tourists and locals all year round. Mostly pretty clean and tidy facilities. Grounds well maintained and cared-for (albeit a bit tired).

This has to be the coolest basketball court in NZ, found in the charming little township of Kaikohe, about 40 minute drive from Paihia, Northland. Designed by Taitamariki, based on traditional Maori mythology.
